Pros:

The pickup/drop off could not have been any closer to the business, it was great.

Cons:

Upfront pricing would have been appreciated. The price you get quoted is GREAT...come to find out it is not the case at all. It is actually 3/4 times more expensive (normal price for US rental). The quote is only for the car BUT you have to get insurance, from Panama (no third party insurance companies outside of country are accepted). So, what started off as a $81 total price for 5 days turned into a $240 price tag AND I had to cancel the third party insurance I purchased (still waiting for my reimbursement).

The car we reserved was not available when we arrived. The only vehicle that could accommodate our passengers and luggage was a truck. The agent charged us the full price for the truck which was considerably more expensive. He said that there was fine print on the webpage explaining that this may happen and we were responsible for the difference in price. Also, the agent didn’t show up for work on the day we returned the car so it took over an hour to find someone who could help us.

They had a policy that indicated that they would run my credit score and I was ask to sign it. I scratch the line out as well as another line indicating that I promise to return the tank full. If the guy at the desk indicate something else then have it in the policy, it is confusing. Also the representative at the desk didn't do a good job of explaining to me what will be charge to my card. I discovered that it was almost $500 when he first indicated $285. I don't think I would ever go with Thrifty or any associates of theirs again.

Alamo as some others on their groups are nothing but thieves. They scam me from a luxury car to a cheap one claiming that AMEX didn’t cover insurance for the luxury car while holding in their hands a letter from them stating that I was covered. But still charged me the luxury car rate blaming on Kayak taking their share off the top first. In other words they pretty much said not to use Kayak at all. I wouldn’t recommend Alamo or any of their affiliates to a dog. I’m not the first one they’ve done this to.

All ok apart from pricing. Booked one way ride and I was charged extra 200$ just for this. No indication during booking that the price can be so high. I've rented many times with different companies around the globe and always booking price was the one you pay. Minor adjustments such as insurance ok but not 5x more. Knowing this before booking would make me book Avis which had better drop-off location.

They really push you to get all insurance through them. Even tho we had insurance with our credit card, their deposit went from $1,000.00 to $100.00 if we insured with the car rental company and they said we would not get our deposit back for 2-3 weeks.

Professional Staff. Car was ready on arrival. Easy pick up and drop off. Clean vehicle.

Cons:

Mechanical issues with vehicle. For some bizarre reason the outside of the windshield remained fogged up on humid and rainy days. Always had to have the windshield wipers on. Electrical issues with the infotainment center and fuel gage. After fill up gage would show about 85% full, after driving through about a quarter tank of gas the gauge would show full. 25% markup on tolls using the E-pass. Wanted to charge me Collision Insurance, but I declined because I was covered by my credit card, so they applied a different insurance that costs the same.

I still have heard nothing in March nor seen a refund($1087.86) Beware of Kayak and Priceline! what a way to start a vacation and incure additional cost of money in renting another vehicle at a premium and additional hotel stay while trying to sort this out! This rental was a complete scam! There was no Economy kiosk at the Panama (PTY) airport, the hotel where the cars were supposed to be was closed and there was no economy presence there. Nobody knew anything, and people who did speak to us and took us to a couple of different car rental places at the airport wanted an arm and leg to rent a car. So we used Uber and taxes all week.
