It’s also worth noting that the roads are not well lit after dark, so avoid driving at night. Police checkpoints are common, so be sure to carry your passport, driver’s license, and vehicle rental contract at all times.
You must be at least 21 years old in order to rent a car in Chad. There are typically no surcharges for those under the age of 25 like there are in many other countries. However, regardless of your nationality and the language of your driver’s license, you will need an International Driver’s Permit (IDP), so be sure to secure one before you travel to Chad and pick up your rental car.
