We had to wait for our car about an hour at pickup. Other than that car pickup and drop off was smooth. The agent was very helpful and the car was exactly what we needed for a fair price.Reviewed Oct 14 2024

W re reserved a car to go on a leaf peeping trip and when we arrived to pick it up, they were all out of cars. We ended up cancelling our reservation and paying double with another rental company but at least they had a car for our reservation.Reviewed Oct 6 2024

Double charged (not pending holds--actual charges) and still waiting for a response from the company. Many pre-trip messages insisting that I should check in online to "skip the desk and go straight to the car." Fortunately I didn't do that, because upon arrival, numerous unhappy travelers were turned away at the garage and sent back to the desk to check in. There were physical signs everywhere asking people to check in online and go straight to the garage. Terrible treatment at the desk. The person lied and said, verbatim, "We only have electric cars right now." and asked if I needed instructions on how to find charging stations. I insisted on a gas car and suddenly he was able to make one available--for twice the price we had reserved online! Don't lie to me and say there are not any gas cars then. Bad service in general too. He asked me how to spell my name WHILE actively holding my photo ID, and then later asked "What kind of card is that" after I had paid. (He meant Visa vs. Mastercard, which, again, you have my card. Stop wasting my time.) Car center console was dirty with brown sticky residue. Horrible experience start to finish, and I'm still not even finished since I'm still waiting for the charges to be corrected.Reviewed Sept 6 2024

I accidentally rented an electric car… in thrifts defense I did not read the description before I purchased. It wasn’t until I was 30m away from the airport that I realized. Took forever to charge the car. The car only had 200mi on it to empty when I rented it. Also did not interact with anyone to get the car it was all online, turned in the keys to a human but that’s it.Reviewed Aug 28 2024

Wildly inconvenient. I was given an electric rental that was not fully charged. I spent much of my vacation frantically looking for chargers to get it charged and wasted time I had planned for visiting instead on waiting for a rental car to charge. There should be warning or pop up pr some kind of instructions to renter that they are receiving a fully electric car so they know ahead of time and can swap if need be.Reviewed Aug 26 2024

Customer service was great! The only problems were the price doubling form the first quote, and now a $78 toll charge. I did go through some tolls, but certainly not $78 worth. Ended up being WAY more expensive than I planned.Reviewed Jun 16 2024

Our pickup experience was horrible!! At first, the man I spoke with was very nice and picking up the car was easy. I installed the car seat (ridiculous they charge for these, they are legally required for safety) and went to pick up my husband and son at our hotel. When we tried to get my son in the seat, we realized the straps would not tighten properly on the seat. The drivers seat was also too high to the ceiling for my torso height causing my view of the road to be blocked by the rear view mirror. We returned to the rental counter to get a new car seat and swap vehicles. It was 10:05 am or so at this point. We did not get on the road until 11:30AM due to so much back and forth trying to do a simple car seat and vehicle swap. We were repeatedly told to go to the wrong area for assistance, and had to drive through the Boston airport property each time to get there only to be told nobody could help us. It was extremely frustrating and delayed our trip by hours. Our poor toddler was stuck in his car seat for way more time than necessary as a result. Horrible experience.Reviewed Nov 15 2023

Traveling outside rush hours whenever possible is key to minimizing unnecessary time spent behind the wheel. Visitors should also note that pedestrian foot traffic tends to be heavy year-round and at all hours, so it’s extra important for drivers in the area to be patient and attentive. There are also numerous parking garages and lots conveniently situated in popular neighborhoods that provide both hourly and daily parking options, such as the Boston Common Garage. If you are driving a Thrifty car rental and are unfamiliar with the area, be sure to pay close attention to the signs marking street parking and parking garages to avoid tickets and towing.
